About Geocaching:

Geocaching can be described as a high tech treasure hunting game but it is much more than that. It is an adventure sport/hobby/thing that people with Global Positioning Satellite Receivers (GPS recievers) can find places (and things) that they may not have known about. They get the coordinates which mark a spot on the Earth (+- 30 feet) from the internet and seek out the treasure. Sometimes the treasure is real -- gold, money, electronic equipment, rings, coins, etc, but usually the "treasure" is items of varying quality from someone's junk drawer. The main thing is if you take something, you leave something. But it's not about the items, it's about the jouney, the adventure, and sharing that with others in the logbook and on the internet. Sometimes the location is the treasure, sometimes it's the journey or the stories of the trip. Just knowing the location isn't enough, you have to figure out how to get there and where the cache (a waterproof container of some sort) is hidden. The official site www.geocaching.com describes it as:

"Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache."
